Genesis was founded in 1997 by Tim and Philippa, a brother and sister team who share an immense passion for guiding people towards increased health & well being. However, Genesis was to become no ordinary fitness centre. Both Tim & Philippa were disillusioned with how the fitness industry promotes itself to the body beautiful end of the market and decided to do things a little differently
The Genesis Team recognises the importance of guiding & nurturing ordinary people every step of the way. Genesis means "a new beginning", you'll be encouraged to let go of your fears, to trust & be supported. The Genesis team gently empower you to find your inner strength & become the special, amazing person that you are.
Martin moved to Bath in September 2015 after running his own Personal Training company in Devon for the past 5 years. He decided that after working independantly he would once again like to be part of a team. Once Martin had heard a bit about Genesis he immediately felt that it was the right place to be to progress his career and challenge himself. Martin says “It is such a fun friendly atmosphere, unlike any gym I have worked in before”
Simon is ever the optimist when it comes to exercise. He most enjoys when a member tells him they can’t do something as it challenges him to prove them wrong. If you were to ask the Genesis members who was the hardest trainer the majority would say Simon, however they would also say he is the most fun, the most engaging and has an immense amount of passion. As a teenager Simon played tennis and football and has continued to exercise regularly to keep himself fit and healthy.
Phillipa feels that the key to maintaining an exercise routine is finding something that you are motivated to do and then enlisting a support network to encourage and support you when you just don’t feel like doing it. Phillipa remains heavily involved in exercise, regualrly participating in the annual Bath Half Marathon.
Annie first came to Genesis through a work experience placement back in 2016, she instantly became a great hit with the staff and clients so we just had to have her back and she became a full member of our team in autumn 2017. Annie's passion for sport has made her a fantastic motivational trainer, as a high level tennis athlete she knows how to get the most from a persons body and pushes our clients to their full potential. Look out for one of her fitness classes...you won't miss them as they are fast paced and very sweaty!!
Tyff joined the Genesis team in January and has settled in with ease, she is basically part of the furniture already. Tyff loves anything energetic and you will often find her doing a 5k run with her best friend Roo (the dog), teaching a high paced Spin class or making people sweat profusely in a studio somewhere. Tyff has worked with a range of different clients and says she most enjoys helping people change their habits and get into exercise in anyway possible.
Stephen started working with Genesis in the new year of 2019. He has a huge passion for helping people move more freely and this is apparent by his in depth knowledge with mobility and stretching. Stephen or Foxy as you may hear him being called is a keen CrossFit competitor and often takes part in regional events. Always keen to improve tecnique don't be afraid to ask him lots of questions and utilise his knowledge.
Chloe is relatively new to the team at Genesis but has made an immediate impact. She loves nothing more than making people sweat in a high paced spin class. As a keen exerciser Chloe’s main love is Netball although she also has an interest in running and most recently ran in an event that took place at Disneyland Paris.
Derek has always had a passion for sports so it is of no surprise that since leaving the education system he is still involved with exercise. He teaches regular fitness classes at Genesis, much to the delight of our members. You can find Derek in his natural habitat of the fitness studio every Tuesday morning so listen out for some of his favourite catchphrases…"squeeze those buttocks, no saggy bottoms, stop talking and start working".
